Him throwing Mariah in this makes this completely dumb when she comes from a time where her skin tone didnt secure the bag. When people like Whitney were stomping all through the 90's and on TOP.  :dead:

And Janet, Toni, Brandy, Mary, Lauryn etc;

You don't see anything wrong with us going from such a diverse represention of black women in mainstream music to the select few of black crossover artists all being the same skin tone?

:omgwatshappening:
:ummwhat:  but hun... what does that have to do with Mariah though? she aint really poppin like that either these days

LOONA.

Agree with what he said about Mariah though.

Totally accurate

these conversations are healthy...im kinda surprised with how blunt Matthew is being but it seems as if a lot of shit is being called out these days.

there's really no time to pretend as if certain things don't exist and aren't there. certainly not with trump as our president

luv nicki to death but i have to call a spade a spade. she damn well KNOWS that there is advantage in being seen as "other" or "mixed" and she plays it up all the time. harajuku! china! my kitchen gewd! it's a bit much.

but i'm not too hard on her or anyone else who may have a complex because we're ultimately all victims when it comes down to that. its larger than just one person or lyric.

only way to really heal and address something is to have an open and honest conversation about it. we brush so much shit under the rug as Black people.

But the only one played on Pop radio is Rih.

And it?s his fault Bey runs a monopoly as far as far as overall culture if that?s what he meant. It?s difficult for ANY new black girl to succeed..

The mi gente remix was on power rotation on all the big pop stations.
I?m not saying the other girls are never played but Rih is played unconditionally..

She had her struggles too. And out of all the girls she makes the most pop radio friendly music. Let?s see how things fare after 30.

well, it is possible that it's harder for the darker girls to break through with people like you seeing dark skin and automatically thinking they "look bad as hell"
You?re unfortunate-looking and you do look bad as hell but don?t blame that on your skin tone you fugly bitch.

Lazarus

It's an advantage but they're talented as well.

But it made no sense for Matthew to throw Mariah in there. At all.
