In her new memoir, Around the Way Girl, Henson gets candid about the gross injustices she's experienced in Hollywood as a black actress. One particular excerpt details Henson's stomach-churning salary negotiations for her work in 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. (The film, also starring Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt, earned Henson an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.)

According to Henson, Blanchett and Pitt received "millions" for their roles in the film?but she didn't expect that much. She said that a salary in the "mid six figures" would've sufficed, but film producers couldn't even give her that. All they could muster up?on a $167 million budget?was a salary in the "lowest of six figures." Oh! And there was a catch: She also had to pay for her "own location fees while filming in New Orleans." (It's pretty customary that big-budget films like Benjamin Button compensate living expenses.)

"...three months of hotel expenses would be coming directly out of my pocket," Henson wrote. "Insult, meet injury."

Henson's story is despicable, but, unfortunately, not that surprising. Hollywood's gender wage gap has been a hot-button topic ever since the Sony hacks revealed Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams earned less than their male costars in 2013's American Hustle.

And before you say anything, I know Taraji did not have the star power of Brad and Cate. Duh.

The fact that people think millions of dollars are being offered to black women.
Kii.

"Both Brad and Cate got millions. Me? With bated breath, I sat by the phone for hours, waiting for Vince [her manager] to call and tell me the number that I thought would make me feel good: somewhere in the mid six figures ? no doubt a mere percentage of what Brad was bringing home to Angelina and their beautiful babies, but something worthy of a solid up-and-coming actress with a decent amount of critical acclaim for her work.

Alas, that request was dead on arrival. ?I?m sorry, Taraji,? Vince said quietly when we finally connected. ?They came in at the lowest of six figures. I convinced them to add in a little more, but that?s as high as they?d go.? There was one other thing: I?d have to agree to pay my own location fees while filming in New Orleans, meaning three months of hotel expenses would be coming directly out of my pocket. Insult, meet injury."

"The math really is pretty simple: there are way more talented black actresses than there are intelligent, meaningful roles for them, and we?re consistently charged with diving for the crumbs of the scraps, lest we starve.

This is exactly how a studio can get away with paying the person who?s name is third on the call sheet of a big-budget film less than 2% what it?s paying the person whose name is listed first. I knew the stakes: no matter how talented, no matter how many accolades my prior work had received, if I pushed for more money, I?d be replaced and no one would so much as blink."

Taraji P Henson wasn't even TARAJI P HENSON when she filmed this movie.  Its a good thing Netflix and HBO have been confirmed to offer black women millions of dollars numerous times. Even Monique said HBO offered her the highest pay day she's had to date when she did Bessie :dead:
But thanks for this Taraji anecdote :kii:
This is my pass to say WHATEVER tf I wanna say about the mess she releases so I don't wanna hear SHIT! Baby mama is a mess of a song btw

It's an assumption, most definitely... based off numerous accounts of black women's experiences.
