I didn't see the issue with the menu (the ribs, mac n cheese, etc. all sounded good tbh) until I got to the kool-aid and watermelon flavored water.

Why is watermelon a negative association? It's fckn delicious.

After slaves were emancipated, a lot of southern blacks sold homegrown watermelons and or her fruits and made good money doing so. This, of course, became a running joke amongst white people and after years of seeing it minstrel shows and movies, watermelon became synonymous with black people.

I think as a result of normalizing those stereotypes for comedy. They have in fact become just as common as the abbreviated version of the N-Word

Now there?s this huge disparity about what?s offensive and what?s not imo

I think it really depends on the setting.

If I were at a family cookout and there was kool-aid and watermelon juice on the table I wouldn't be up in arms about it.

But if I'm at my job and they throw me a birthday party with grape flavored koolaid ...telling me they knew I'd love it when they never saw me drinking it before, it's a different ballgame now.
