Why is watermelon a negative association? It's fckn delicious.

After slaves were emancipated, a lot of southern blacks sold homegrown watermelons and or her fruits and made good money doing so. This, of course, became a running joke amongst white people and after years of seeing it minstrel shows and movies, watermelon became synonymous with black people.

We really should be upset that white people have worked so hard to put a negative connotation to almost everything that we do.  "Look at them eating!" "They have made up names." All their names were once made up, too.

Exactly!! It?s like black people should be ashamed of every food they?ve made and crafted. What makes the origin of cornbread so difffernt from the way garlic knots were created? I guarantee if you try to ?make fun? of food from any other culture, they?ll turn it around and make a way to profit from it.
