An artist has to be willing to invest (perhaps losing money) in themselves these days.

It may be worth it, it may not be worth it -- that's up to the artist.
Bran has a family and a future to consider.  Whatever she decides to do funding wise for her career, is entirely up to her.  But whatever that choice, it will def play a critical role in her future projects.
