-Beneath the surface, behind the smile~
In 1998, at the release of my very first single, my family fell apart with a divorce, the family business went to shreds & life served a violent storm. Simultaneously, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I remember never knowing if I was gonna get that call to say she didn?t make it, while I?d just jumped into a sea of sharks trying to prove I had what it took to make it. An emotional wreck, I concealed any sign of weakness with silence so much, many thought I was conceited or some light skinned stuck up. Antisocial or weird, but I was just a young girl trying to figure it out while living in fear. Ain?t it funny how the perceived best years were the worst years? But one thing we gon? do is always push through ?cause the storms don?t stop so neither should you. ~Mya

Never knew she experienced all of this to THIS extent.  She really was intentional about her private life. It's wild how you can seemingly be on top of the world and your reality is anything but. Much love and adoration for her. Hope she gets her flowers soon.

She's always been referred to as an ice queen on here and I never understood. She's just happens to be a quiet, meek individual. I think she's alluring.

she made it clear she wasn't a yes woman. I think being so intelligent and well-rounded hurt her in the industry

now I do feel like it was the route she first took

she knows how to sex it up, but ppl were never going to dig that deep into Mya or expect more after seeing her as the teenage sex kitten.

it's like she built up all of the bad reputations ... cold, slutty, bitchy, airheaded

and she's the complete opposite of them all. it really wasn't fair at all
