Many Whites, especially back then, convinced themselves that Black people weren't human or that their treatment of us was "for our own good". As if they were doing us a favor or something. They did the same thing to Native Americans when they came to the US.

They truly made themselves believe that they were "saving us" from such a terrible life just because it wasn't in line with their beliefs.
