I think ppl love/loved Diana because of her docile demeanor and her authenticity. She was on TV hugging those famine babies with flies all over their face and also AIDS patients. She was humble and didn't see herself as if she was above other people just because she was a royal. Plus she was really pretty.

I was a kid when she died, but I know it broke people?s hearts.

I think she was the first ?accessible? royal, back when people cared more about royalty.  She was kind of a regular girl in terms of her life.  Yes, she was from a high-ranking family, but she held a job before being crowned.  Down-to-earth, went to concerts, etc.  Cared about children?s health, AIDS Awareness at a time when that was huge, and did tons of charity work.  That was unusual for a royal.

People love a princess and thought she was beautiful (no shade, she was average to me).  Then, Charles cheated and mistreated her, so I think women always sympathized with that.
