Comments say that he was waiting at a bus stop and "accidentally" pulled out a large wad of cash and the crooks robbed him for it. The sneakers were a bonus.

When I used to ride the bus/train to work, I would carry one of my hand-me-down backpacks with nothing in it to put my store bags in. Just in case I decided to buy something out of Macy's or Footlockers. Don't need an ape to see my bags and get any ideas.

And taking out cash in front of people is a strike no-no where I'm from. Asking for mess.
