Kameelah had a very distinctive voice.

The 90's comment was a bit of  stretch but they definitely wasn't at the bottom of the barrel.

The Brandy Barbie

I really don?t understand the entertainment in putting down all the girl groups. Like with June?s Diary, I guess it?s because some fan said they?d stopped listening to Beyonc? and would use Kristal as a replacement. And Kristal took that as a compliment, so some fans have been at war with her since. Pretty silly.

What did 702 do? Claimed that they had their own unique sound?

Gilgamesh.

702 were the first group to jump on the Garage/House sound with "You Don't Know"  :supluv:

:ohwow:

I mean this Vogue article does credited as an influence on Y2K R&B

Quote
these women elbowed out the crunchy catchiness of Britney Spears and aggression of Kid Rock with interesting, seductive music.

It wasn?t neo-soul so much as neo-R&B?an innovative take on a beloved genre that promised a way forward.

They collaged the dominant sounds of R&B production at the time (from innovators like Timb, Missy, Jermaine Dupri, and"Boy is Mine" producers Dallas Austin and Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins) and made something peppy and poppy and radio-friendly that kept pace with the Britneys and the N ?Syncs without sacrificing experimentation.
