The Only BLACK Kalmyks

Project started: 2014 Wrapped up: 2024

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

Question tho, were trans women the ones who built the ballroom scene like the show portrays or was it drag queens?

Ah. Is it just me or does the show make it seem like drag queens didn't really exist?

Hmmmm

I guess you could say that but there's but so much you can fit into Pose

I guess covering each and every detail would be very informative

However, people would say the show is too "busy"

I guess Pose is a good rough draft spin-off and 101 ball culture for the mainstream

Its kinda like a gateway to get you to watch the likes of Paris Is Burning, Leave It On The Floor, The Queen, My House, etc.

The gorls basically say Pose breaks every thing down pretty plain for Billy Bob & Mary Sue in Tennsesse. ie They have prob never seen an actual blaggot irl so this is good 101 stuff for them.

Ah, I can see this. Pose was very trans-driven but this makes sense.
