It still should be on the front pages of most news outlets. There have been numerous cases related to HIV and criminality with images of Black men being plastered all over the place.

I would agree, but someone brought up a good point the other day that struck me. They basically said HIV is mentally ill gay black men?s form of suicide. They basically go out and have reckless sex because they have no regard for their lives and instead of overdosing or taking a bullet to the head or a noose around the neck, that?s how they off themselves. I say all that to say, when you look at it like that, the statistics seem legit. The black gay community is plagued with mental illness, this board has a few tbh, and sex is a coping tool despite how deadly it can be.

Although I do agree that self-worth issues definitely come into play when making decisions on whether or not to engage in riskier sexual habits and that a lot of psychosocial factors negatively impact our (Black queer men) mental state , I don't think we can just attribute that to some subconscious need to want to kill ourselves. That would kinda be reductive considering all of the multiple facets (education, resources, culture, accessibility, testing rates, mental health, etc.)  that affect HIV contraction rates among Blk men. I also think its important to be aware that HIV isn't a death sentence and most folks who learn of their status get linked into care. They're not out here waiting to waste away.

I agree with the last statement, sex is definitely a coping tool for all of that-for some people. However, that's not exclusive to Black gay men.

I agree with the environment mess. We have a pics from my coworkers gay marriage on the fridge in our break room - with congrats and little love notes from the rest of us. I'm sorry but that just wouldn't be tolerated in a predominately Black setting .  Especially if men were running the show.

It's a different world for black gay men. There's a reason why many don't feel included in the "community".

Not accepted by the church, home, and when many of the young gay Black men seek refuge in a gay friendly establishment or setting, they face rejection via racism ... and pretty much have nowhere to turn because there are very few , if any , Black owned establishments of that nature depending on what city you're in.

Gay white men have the resources to treat themselves mentally and their community is far more accepting. Lack of acceptance is largely why a lot of black gay men are mentally ill and most of us don?t have the resources to opt out of homophobia like white gays, for example, starting an all gay company with nothing but white gay employees creating a safe environment or working at jobs that are gay friendly and tolerant of gay people. A lot of black men are ashamed of their own sexuality because they?re shamed for it by their community their whole lives. Carrying a burden like that can make you sick. In most cases, white men are sick because they?ve had too much freedom and have this entitlement complex. That?s not to say they don?t experience homophobia and aren?t dealing with the same things, but it?s certainly not to the same degree as black and brown men. In black and brown communities, gay automatically means less than a person. You are a pariah to a very large degree. You become a thing instead a person. ?Oh, girl, you mean the FAG?! And that's sad because I'm sure many Black actors would love to have that sort of range and flexibility, and I'm sure some have been tempted to really test the waters, but not everyone's willing to put their careers on the line to make a statement and go against the grain a bit. And I don't blame them one bit for that. Especially not at the height of their career.

And there are so many closeted men who don't know how "clocky" they are. On the inside they feel as if its undetectable and well hidden but have no idea that alarms are ringing everywhere they walk. I feel the saddest for them because they try to suppress their tendencies. It's so evident.

True. Don't know if I'm 100% there with the "agenda" thing but I definitely see validity in what you're saying.

I'm not even masculine myself and my heart goes out to the masculine gay Black dudes. People are legit surprised to see a masculine gay male with no feminine tendencies or a flair for fashion and shade. You'd think they were an endangered species or something.

It?s def. an agenda. That?s why I no longer consider myself part of the LGBT community. Who do you think is responsible for all of this no labels, non-binary, sexual fluid, gender fluid mess? White LGBT people. LGBT no longer has standards and every day it?s something different. A lot of this shit is creating this animosity. I mean, children don?t even have a sexual orientation yet they?re making non-binary and gender fluid clothes for newborns and children. Their advancements are greater than any minority group and POC don?t benefit.
