Bran was amazing live from the debut, but hadn?t reached her full potential
there was certainly nothing really ?wrong? with her vocally

!!! Vonc must be talking about the NSN era after she experienced getting booed by an entire arena or something, cuz Debut Brandy was a straight up PRODIGY and every night was something different from her delivery wise. She was not to be fucked with

Pitch, tone , the nuances and improvisational skills and ability to emote, and place everything PERFECTLY. Brandy would have drug 702 all across that damn stage

she was no Whitney or Celine or Mariah, but she was a brilliant singer already. If ur gonna post Child Jazmine, then Brandy definitely belongs IMO. Brandy was super intentional with each note, run and choice. Thats what i mean by brilliant

Jazmine is a better live singer NOW tho, i wouldnt argue that like some delusional stan

Brandy could stand to grow as a live singer when she came out.  She didn't have an immaculate voice or technique and that's what I'm talking about. Brandy was a good singer, she wasn't a great singer. Funny enough she sang better live during her debut than she did on nsn

Brandy was great during the debut. It was obvious her self esteem took a hit and her voice was changing (puberty related maybe) during NSN and she was adapting to it as best she could. Plus people complained that live she didn?t sound like she did on the recording. The problem was, all the other girls were belting to prove they could sing, so people naturally said that she couldn?t sing..and it makes sense against that kind of music/vocal landscape. Looking back, Brandy always for whatever reason either had a different singing style than the people out at the time or a different sound than the people out. And her career didn?t really take a hit until she started trying to fit in.

But yeah, NSN live performances were a little weird. Even FM live performances she played safe and held back a lot, when she could clearly deliver vocals like ?Open?
