Whenever a white person brings up how "eloquent" a poc speaks I cringe.

I document most of them and then depending on my relationship with the person and the setting I bring them all up.

Did this with my clinical director, she was pissed, and I ended up quitting in the long run. Her organization ended up getting reviewed by an ethical board and the president had to resign lolz
See Im scared of doing this because the NHS sexual/mental community in London is so small
I'm scared of getting blacklisted, I've seen great healthcare professionals being turned away because they were vocal about what they had seen

Kaeli.

I usually give an ?excuse me? :diddraispoot:? or if it?s a shitty joke or claim I go ?Huh? Expound please.? :ummwhat:

The way they SCRAMBLE when you ask them to explain themselves mmmkkn :blessed:

It doesn?t bother me much, tbh. ?Micro? is in the name, which means you have to give serious consideration if whether or not whatever is being said/done is an act of aggression. I care more about actual acts of aggression like threats, or physical acts of violence.

Someone saying I speak articulately isn?t an act of aggression. I used to take that as a compliment, but now I use it to ask questions that hopefully start meaningful conversations that dispel stereotypes. I chalk up these ?microaggressions? as people being unfamiliar with common tropes in other cultural backgrounds.

Yeah that's a real ass concern too. The YT folks know people of color are more in need of maintaining their jobs to survive.

I think that's also a major issue here in certain settings but there are so many organizations out here that it's hard to really block someone based on anecdotal info.

I still would document tho. Are you looking for similar work elsewhere? Or you could even work your way up, get you a Black mentor and "become the system".

One of the very few positive things I can say about where we are today in terms of racism is that these days, it?s being exposed, perhaps in some of the most prominent places,  like the White House and in the entertainment industry. Look how fast Disney fired Roseanne. And look at all those these ( not so ) shocking revelations about Donnie. Racism is becoming more and more unacceptable and I live.

Like this one woman a few years ago said 'You're so well spoken...you sound like you read!"

At first I didn't think nothing of it because she said she used to be a teacher, but...she taught at the white school and it was the first time I was around the white people in our town and I noticed they we're more worried about the black people and what they did in town than I was.

I used to be an all lives matter type of gorl...until I actually grew up and met white people.

I honestly get tired of hearing about White people sometimes but then I try to take a step back from myself and realize that many people have had experiences with them head-on that have understandably had lasting effects.

The stories in here are unreal. I understand the anger.

Honestly, my dad has a SHITTON of land in Kenya

I've been considering if when I'm older, if I want to live the rest of my life there.

I am so comfortable when I'm at a black event.  :dead: :dead: But thats nothing I'm seriously thinking about at the moment. I need to really feel the culture, because my dad isn't Kenyan anymore. He looks it, talks it, and loves it, but he's American.

That's a blessing - to have land in the motherland ready for you whenever you're ready to retreat.

BAPHOMET.

I had an incident happen yearssss back when I worked at the Armani Exchange down here. If everyone can refrain from making this into a joke.

I didn?t know how to take it at the time when the manager was complimenting me on my work and was shading the black guy that was my co-worker at the same time.

The other guy had gotten on a little before i did and I guess he hadn?t been doing s up to standard. Idk. From what I saw the guy did a damn good job. But the manager was talking to me, just shooting the breeze. Asking me personal questions about what do I do outside of the job was like was I in college (was at the time) and my nationality/ethnicity or whatever  :uhh: and then he brought up about the other guy and was shading him down, and said he was wondering what he was  :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: because he had googled his last name n shit. Like what the FUCK. I called my mom about it and she told me to report to Corporate. I was hesitant at first.... because I didn?t want the shit to not get him fired and then he retaliate on some bitch shit.  :hmph:

But I did it anyway and he did indeed get fired  :tistheseas:
