Ugh. t4p this Ralf. Watching now

She's preaching at 5:00

I always say that we don't stop to realize where we started before we begin feeling embarrassed about financial statistics within the community and mess. We came here as enslaved people - not immigrants with a plan to open a business or to "live the American dream"..

To go from chattel slavery to Jim Crow to where we are now says a LOT about the tenacity of African-Americans. I'm glad she's putting this out there.

Exactly!!

And I have to say there is a huge difference between black Caribbeans and black Americans (e.g., Down South, etc.). When my family came to North America, we did not have the same mentality of being 'enslaved' or disenfranchised. My parents and families did not experience the white/black thing in Guyana and Trinidad. So we came in and lashed for filth. :dead:  I never had that feeling of the 'white man' being a barrier.
I did experience it when I started working, though. But my upbringing helped me to stay leveled. If that makes sense.

omg She's PREACHING on home ownership vs mobility

I'm going through that right now.
Trying to figure out a plan of action.
This BIT was speaking.

I love what she was saying.

And CONDITIONING is def the culprit.

I do, too.
I get frustrated, sometimes.

But I have to remember how serious generational conditioning is.
And sometimes people don't have the resources to get things started, and don't know how to create their own.

I always felt like I have to KNOW I am staying put somewhere before I get any sort of mortgage.

I've seen people go into that process with little  regard to the "What ifs"

Like a lesbian couple I knew down south - they were in love and decided to buy a house together. A few months later they're broken up and have to figure out who gets the house, who's paying the rest of the mess, etc.

What a horrible mistake to make.

Lesbians always moving in together after two months, no shade.

And yes, getting a mortgage is such a serious commitment.
I have to know that I'm staying put for at least five to ten years.

I also have anxiety about getting a mortgage with someone else.
I'd rather do it alone.
So it's gonna take me longer to get that together.

Yeah, but an entire mortgage? That's crazy.

I've seen apartment rental messes go up in flames - but at least you'd have to just figure out who does what for that given year. Not the next 40 years. :omf:

:plzstop: :plzstop:

They buggin' for doin that.
