Tiffany Evans uses pain to fuel her breakup anthem "Switch Up," premiering on Billboard Friday (Nov. 9). The cathartic record is slated to appear on her upcoming album, which will find the 26-year-old in a more vulnerable state than ever.

"'Switch Up' is another way of me saying 'fuck you' to an ex. It took me so long to finally say, 'I can?t do this anymore. I?m going out tonight and going to kick it with someone who?s going to show me a good time,'" she explains to Billboard of the inspiration behind the track.

The "Promise Ring" singer says she wanted to make sure the song wasn't too dense, since heavy subject matter is touched on throughout. (Evans opened up about an abusive relationship earlier in the week in a since-deleted post.) "I wanted the record to have balance. I wanted something light and vibey with just enough kick because the lyrics are serious," Evans asserts. "Most of the song was freestyled because I was going through so much, that made it easy for me to express what I was feeling."

"Switch Up" officially sets the rollout of the Bronx native's first project since 2015 in motion. "This is just the beginning of what I?ll be singing about on my new project. The music is definitely more raw and vulnerable compared to my past work," she concludes.
