It?s been almost a quarter of a century since Mariah Carey released her song ?All I Want For Christmas Is You? ? the track reaches that important milestone next year ? but it only continues to grow in popularity with every passing holiday season. The inescapable tune has enjoyed a newfound relevance on the charts in the past few years because of a number of factors, and while Christmas isn?t for another two weeks, Carey?s smash has already reached a new peak ? and it might not be done lifting.

This week, ?All I Want For Christmas Is You? rises to No. 7 on the Hot 100, the all-encompassing listing of the most popular singles in the U.S. every week. Last frame, it jumped to No. 14, breaking into the Top 40 once again.

No. 7 now stands as the song?s high point, and this week is just the second in its decades-long history it?s spent inside the top 10. Last year, fans of Carey and of ?All I Want For Christmas Is You? itself celebrated as it finally broke into the top 10 for the very first time, settling at No. 9. The track became the singer?s 28th top-10 single in the U.S., tying her for the seventh-most such smashes with the legendary Stevie Wonder.

With time left to go before the holiday season is over, radio stations switching to all-Christmas music, streaming impacting the charts in bigger ways than in previous years and more attention focused on Carey (who also just released a new album a few weeks ago) and her history-making cut than ever before, it?s possible that ?All I Want For Christmas Is You? could continue to climb.

No. 7 would be a respectable position for a song that?s already been in the spotlight for so long, and if current behemoths like Ariana Grande?s ?Thank U Next? and Travis Scott?s ?Sicko Mode? keep it from advancing much further, Carey still has a lot to be thankful for ? but at this point, it?s tough to imagine it won?t rise at least a little bit more before 2019 rolls around.
