Well, I made the beat and some of the synths in November 2016 and hadn't touched it since. I kinda re-discovered the project file some weeks ago and finally finished the track.

I'm not that good with melodies so I usually build around whatever melodies I can come up with (I think I'm more of a beat maker anyway). Do any of the musicians here have any advice for creating strong and exciting melodies?

And about the melodies, I have a hard time coming up with good melodies too. What I'll do is listen to other music for inspiration and find a way to translate it into my own without making it sound so similar.

Or just directly take a portion of the song and make it into something new, y'know?

Thank you so much. Yea, maybe that's what I need to do more. Using certain songs as direct inspiration, instead of just starting from scratch entirely.
