I could be wrong
but I think the subject matter turned middle america and the religious people off
because there were gay characters and the musical centers around the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 90's

I could definitely see that being one of the reasons a lot haven't tuned in

Whether the song is good or not, she still sounded like shit.

Rent is a MAJOR show. Award winning, Critical acclaim, a million seasons on broadway, travel versions off broadway, major movie to go along with it... it is surprising it flopped. It absolutely could do with the folks used in this particular cast.

But a lot of the theatre girls and musical geeks are very harsh. It?s like the comic book world

Tv and movies can take away from the magic of what that original experience is/was
