The more people who are openly acceptive of their status, the less people they will infect because of their denial.

Charlie is not a good poster child for HIV though. He is a reckless drug abuser and apparent sex addict, who would only reinforce stereo types.

Well what Herbs n Spices meant is that HIV and AIDS is seen as a black and gay disease.
Charlie's announcement would put a new face on it, white hetro males really don't get associated with the disease

I see. Personally growing up I always connected HIV with recklessness and careless lavish drug-filled lifestyles, more than gays or blacks. It's so unfortunate but often having HIV brings undertones of that person was stupid, lust-stricken, nympho-ish...

Hopefully society can let go of that.

Revealing I was gay on here was much easier and safe than doing it in real life.
