It's pure denial. When you really want to believe one thing it's highly unlikely you'd dive into anything that would sway you from it.

And if you do dive into it, you won't listen to the other side. You'll talk over them, try to counter everything they say and even move to dismantle their credibility so they won't have a leg to stand on.
