This movement seems to be an effort to make a clear distinction between Blacks who are descendants of enslaved people of America (ADOS = American Descendants of Slavery), and those who are recent immigrants or descendants of immigrants from another country.

Part of me feels that this is a tad divisive, but the other part of me thinks of some Black immigrants (Africans, sometimes even Caribbeans) who come to America and look down on Black Americans ...not keeping in mind that without the work of African-Americans done in this country in the past - especially during efforts such as the Civil Rights movement, their Black ass wouldn't have a leg to stand on here. No one would be like "Oh wait, you're Nigerian? It's OK to use that fountain lolz. Phew thought you were Black American! lol  "

Just to be fair: Not all of them do that but, those who do ... shame on you.
But I digress. Here's some more info on the movement.

Founders of the hashtag:

QuoteAntonio Moore, a lawyer in California, and Yvette Carnell, a former journalist and congressional aide, appear to be leading the charge. The two make regular YouTube videos arguing that people whose ancestors were enslaved have a "justice claim" that black immigrants don't.

"We have been doing 'people of color' politics, but if you want to talk about what people who have been identified as African Americans need and what we are owed, then we have to change that definition." Carnell said.

Quote"We thought that there wasn't enough policy and policy initiatives, policy proposals for Americans who descended from slavery and had ancestors who lived through Jim Crow, reconstruction, all of that, so we came up with the hashtag American DOS or ADOS," Carnell said, adding that they started the hashtag around two years ago.
