Does a singer's catalog matter if the singer sucks?

I personally feel like beautifully written songs with immaculate instrumentation don't mean a thing when the singer is incapable of breathing life into or immersing themselves into the song.

That could just be me. What do y'all think?

I totally get this.

Ciara's "I found Myself" could have been a beautiful song. The simple instrumentation, the melody, the lyrics..... but the vocal killed what could have been a FORCE behind that song. It just didn't go anywhere.

i need like... REAL examples. Hits. I'm not sure if I'm understanding. But at the end of the day... I guess it's all subjective.

There's a lot of bops made by people who aren't powerhouse singers. You don't need a voice to make a dope song as long as your tone slays.

Rih is the perfect example that catalog>>>voice
how I captured what he's saying is that it's not really about vocal "ability"... it's about the artist bringing a certain kind of life to a song that no other artist could. He's arguing that the song is a hit or good just because of the song itself, not anything that the artist did for it.

No one else could do What's My Name, Rude Boy, ect. like Rih.

...my little hiatus

It's not like the 2 things are mutually exclusive.

There's plenty of bad singers with good catalogs.

Janet, Rih etc etc.
