They actually have a semi-subtle romantic tea in the books.  It was less played up on the show because the actress was a minor at first, but yeah.  SanSan is definitely a thing.  Remember that he saved her a few times in the early seasons, and offered to take her from King's Landing.

I actually agree with you. It's almost like they're trying to shift the fans in favour of Jon/King The North - which is makes me think they might kill off Dany afterall
