And I think the music just got bad as she continued to put out albums. "The Element of Freedom" was NOT good at all, and then she comes out with "Girl On Fire" and that was also a dud and I didnt even bother with that last one.

Girl on fire is actually the first album I've listen to her in full. Other folks I tend to get into when their buzz dies down.

I don't think the Mashonda thing mattered to that many people tbh

i think it was a mixture of

- the music getting shittier upon each release
- her pretentious act in a more love & hip hop/badgalriri type climate
- the decline of R&B in general (she actually lasted quite longer than the other girls)

I think she's a big enough name to make a lite comeback if she put her makeup back on and put out some good shit

I think back in the 2000s when her main competition was Beyonce people thought Alicia was the better singer just because she played piano and seemed pretentious. Once the jig was up I think people were over it. Love her though

Ever since she got pregnant and became a mother, things havent been the same. She became corny. Image wise, she used to be the hip, cool girl every young girl wanted to be. She was classy and the kinda artist parents would like for their daughters to listen to and emulate. I remember in high school, every girl LOVED Alicia and wanted to do their braids just like her, etc. Once the Girl On Fire era rolled around and she had her baby and got married, she just wasnt the same person anymore understandably.

The first thing she would have to do for me is an image overhaul. All this no make up, all natural look shit was late. And then her singing songs about Blended Family and shit. No one wants to hear that.

We lost this Alicia during the As I Am era:

And now we're stuck with Auntie Moore:

Aside from all of this, her music has been on a decline since the Element of Freedom. And the only real big hit she had from As I Am was No One.

It's mostly musical

Most of her recent stuff just doesn't connect. In common is awesome but the rest of the album is spoken word over a piano

Like ... what're u doing?

She's been sounding a hot mess live since her sophomore tho.

Her mtv live mess is a joke  :plzstop:

Empire State Of Mind threw her a curve ball when she was struggling to get a hit ... I honestly believe if she put out a dope rnb love song she could slide back in.
Hear 'em swarmin', right? (Zz) 🐝 🐝  is known to bite (Zz, zz)

And you can't be out here looking a mess, sounding a mess and releasing elevator music :dead:

Like Sle said, she's sounded a mess for a good 50% of her career but at least the music was good and she was giving the girls dyke pilates instructor tea

!!!! And the novelty of her playing piano wore off a long time ago. It was a cute gimmick mess, but the girls realized she ain't THAT great at it, and HER and many others can play a shit ton of instruments on a higher level.

It's like ok, now what else u got?

The pop songs that she choose as first singles did her wrong since 2009.
"No One" was the exception that tricked her.
"Doesnt Mean Anything" has to be the worst first single of her career after "Girl On Fire".
Too Pop for her core..
She knew  that when she released "GOF".. that's why she did the lazy "adult version", but it wasn't enough.

She was an album seller..and she started doing thoses lazy pop singles.. and it killed her.
"Unthinkable" was her last REAL hit..an real urban smash..
otherwise, she cant choose a good single..
"In Common, is a nice track but it just doesn't fit her main audience radio wise which is now UAC- Urban Cross Over.
She needs to find the righ ttrack.. the song that we be a BIG hit at UAC and then cross over Urban and Rhytmic..
I don't think that she's OVER OVER.. because her formula is the "basiest" one.
Piano + Voice..is simple but can work in every era.
even by mistake, one day,  she can have the right song and it will help her to get a gold album..
nothing more..
She's arriving 40..
Gospel album, Jazz album, etc.. it's what's coming next for her..

(sorry for my english)
