Ashley and Michael must have threatened to leave the reunion early (since Bravo can sue if they just didn't turn up at all) and since their storyline is gonna be the best part of reunion it was either them or Katie.

They're not taking her side. It doesn't make sense for them to invite a friend if their main storyline is threatening to leave early because of her.

Ashley is too pompous to threaten not to go.  And they keep half the salary if you don't go to the reun'.
They are taking Ashley's side if they met her demands.  They decided to throw her under the bus to support her employee.
