It's just some great musicianship going on on deja vu. Upgrade u is cool asf but basic and run of the mill.  They are totally different categories imo

Musically, Deja is better.

When it came out, I thought it was too similar to CIL, but it is really the better version.

But Beyonce really came into her swag on Upgrade.  She rode that knock confidently in a way that characterized her later music.  And her belting the bridge and then the staccato cadence rap/sing at the end is just... .

Plus, that's Jay's best rap feature on her songs.  I usually ignore him on her other songs.
