Megan Thee Stallion Teases Her Next Album's Concept: 'It's Been A Little More Vulnerable'

"I'm giving y'all a little more insight on why I am the way I am."

2019 has seemingly been an endless year of wins for Megan Thee Stallion, who has been working at a break-neck pace since her industry debut.

She's dropped countless freestyles, dominated her now-viral 2019 XXL Cypher, led the wave with her Hot Girl Summer lifestyle motto, performed on NPR and signed a deal with Roc Nation. Most recently, the 24-year-old revealed that she has signed on to star in Season 3 of NBC's hit show Good Girls as well. In short, the TIME Next 100 honoree had a successful year that has gone unmatched by most artists for 2019.

But her phenomenal hot streak hasn't come without its lows. Most notably, Meg suffered the unfortunate loss of her mother and manager, former Houston rapper Holly Thomas, who passed away from cancerous brain tumor in March. In spite of the tragedy, Megan kept her foot on the gas all summer long. In a new interview with the Associated Press, published on Monday (Dec. 16), the "Big Role Freak" rapstress reflected over how far she has come.

"I won't complain because I remember I used to be at home wishing I was leaving and going to do shows," she said. "I'm just grateful for everything that happened this year, and the opportunities that a lot of people have given me." Although Megan's success and the respect she's garnered speaks for itself, Megan isn't done hustling yet. "I know I'm not where I want to be at yet, so I'm still trying to grind," she told the publication. That includes a missed Grammy nomination this year, which Megan remains content about.

"You're not rapping because you want to win a Grammy. You're rapping because you want to rap,″ the "Big Ole Freak" rapstress said. "I don't think you should have it in your mind when you're in a studio like, 'I'm going to write these bars because I'm going to win these Grammys.' No! You're writing these bars because you have a fan base."

She previously told Angie Martinez she had enough songs to make an album. Speaking to the Associated Press, she said that her newer songs will showcase a "vulnerable" side of her.

"My album, the songs that I've been recording for it so far, have been way more soft than my usual music — a little soft in my opinion. It's been a little more vulnerable," she shared. "I feel like that's what my fans want to know at this point, so I'm giving y'all a little more insight on why I am the way I am."
