But then I remembered that the Brandy/Kobe thing is so pop-culture-driven -- that people can't help but to talk about it. Nostalgic, at best. Amanda Seales even mentioned it on The Real, including newscasters.

It's a part of his "story/history", as random as it seems right now. No different than them talking about his working relationship with Shaq, etc. and everything else he has been a part of, and was significant for its time.
