Cynthia Erivo, is an amazing singer, she's brilliant. With that being sad, this song should have been song by an African American. I don't know if its the fact that she's British, but I felt that she performed this song for a white audience. Clearly the audience is mostly white, but when singing a song as a slave talking about freedom, It needed some SOUL & Pain.

I think Fantasia would have done a better job with this song, and I think Fantasia was the better Celie on Broadway.

what does being British have to do with not having SOUL & Pain

As a monica Stan..
shes literally confident for no reason.
i can't respect a girl that just sings and then whatever comes out .. she's ok with

brandy may lip her performances lately  but most of her career she has giving amazing live performances.. and I don't think she can learn or pull anything from Monica

brandy is definitely an all time great for me and to a lot of other people
she may not be the most confident live singer but that's the perfectionist in her.. she can clearly do it

her styling, approach, vocal versatility, tone and range makes her one of the greats

it's just apparent you like a yell owt..

Actually I don't, but there are times when it is appropriate. I only stan for Brandy and Monica, and I ok admitting that neither as vocalist, have a Master Class of singing performance. Brandy is always safe, Monica is always off-key 

Brandy only challenges herself vocally in the studio. She has created a safety net behind the studio, and refuse to attempt certain things live. To me that alone disqualifies her from being one of the all time greats.
