Jones couldn't see the trenches due to the wind the white walkers sent their way, he couldn't tell where he was at in the storm

Right after Melisandre risks her life to light the trench there is a quick shot of Jon sitting on his dragon on top of a wall right by the trenches watching looking dead at the trench

The Night King is played by a real life swords master, stunt man and they could have used it for an epic battle between him and Jon

They could have had him kick Jon's ass and you could have still had Arya Kill him

No, babe I seen that. They panned to him to show he couldn't see. He was trying to see through the wind and snow when he was sitting on his dragon over in the corner. Watch his reaction when the trench lit up and showed them light
