Nappy hair is a word used to described kinky hair. Kinky hair is actually a real thing, and a real category. It's the negative connotations that we attach to these descriptions or categories that make them a "bad thing".
e.g. "You nappy headed bitch." I don't like the word "nappy" (only because I know how many people use that word), and I'd never use it to describe someone else's head. It's quite offensive. Although I have seen people use it with pride. There are many people trying to REVERSE the negative feelings toward the name. And infuse it with pride and love.

yeah, I'm kinda bothered at how strong the connotation is tbh.

Well most of the blacks at my school had fades, relaxers, and weaves so anything "natural" was considered Nappy unless it was soft wavy curls.

I've always attended mixed schools but now I'm wondering wtf kinda children I went to school with as I grow

Your hair, to me at least, is nappy or kinky, when you can't just comb it or when you can't change your hair style by simply adding water. You can literally cut it like a hedge and make shapes. That is nappy hair.

Well, yeah. I was kinda on my "soapbox" about Eurocentric standards of beauty that are forced on us the other week and was pretty much told to shut the hell up.
