It you have to charge your significant other, then they aren't your significant other :dead:

A real man would just tell her to pocket that money, and lets start saving for our joint future. Let's both put 800 a month into a joint account.

this gender role mess is so antiquated. He has paid off his home and has equity in it now. Why should someone who he is not married to benefit from that?

he's wrong and it speaks to his character. They're a couple...  she's not some random college kid renting out a bedroom. Sddd  The point of them moving in together is to cut/split expenses. He's banking off of her....  the rent she pays to him would basically cover his half of the home expenses. :dead: She might as well just pay a few extra hundred more and get her OWN house. :dead:

I'd breakup, for sure. D

REALucid

I could see if he had a mortgage, but if the house is paid off, this is a some lowkey fuckboy stuff

he has every right to ask for rent if she's living there - especially considering they're not married.
i think if this scenario included a man being asked to  pay rent, people wouldn't blink an eye about it.
and may even side eye him a bit for moving into his woman's crib (see: todd tucker, the "opportunist")

but ultimately this is mixing business and pleasure.....which is never the greatest idea.

being someone's landlord and partner can't be an easy arrangement.

Unless I'm misunderstanding  this, he doesn't have "rent" cause owns his home right?

Charging your other half rent just seems tacky to me. Maybe a conversation about how bills were gonna split moving forward would have made sense before hand. Cause if you're building towards marriage/family why would one of you be paying other rent?..you're basically paying to be in your relationship :dead:

it could be the formality of it all that's throwing people off from the idea.

"he's charging her $800 rent" sounds a lot harsher than "she pays the cable and electric/gas bill, he handles everything else."
even if those two bills come to $800.

seems like she's a working adult if she was paying her own rent beforehand. so why not contribute to the household.
but i get why people are thrown off by the scenario. A) it's a woman and B) the whole arrangement seems super formal.

Now this I agree with.

I think regardless of the gender being a tenant of your partner while living with them is awkward
if she was charging him rent it would still be wrong
and what if an unplanned pregnancy happens and she cant work?
just sounds like this would be set up to fail

Vonc2002

I wouldn't charge my woman rent but she could take a bill or 2
This is my pass to say WHATEVER tf I wanna say about the mess she releases so I don't wanna hear SHIT! Baby mama is a mess of a song btw

this part. I cant be with you and seriously making you pay me to live with me  :dead:
so if we're in love and you miss the rent, I evict you?  :uhh:
I can see him making her pay some bills, that way its not directly to him
and it still is helping him out and carrying her weight
Yea,  I'm with Ray. Pay some bills.  Rent? Nah
