I agree 100%...  Rap definitely gets it. R&B artists need to come together, collaborate and just support each other. You rarely see they R&B girls getting together and making things happen. And if they do. Some are busy trying too outshine the next. I can't remember when last I've purchased an R&B. I just don't get excited anymore.

If R&B  Singers stop trying to sing these hood rap lyrics with soul that would help too. Adele's album for example is very Universal anybody from Shaquita to Heather Anne can relate and get in. Same reason why I feel Brandy NSN is her most successful album. the content was universal and had push behind it.

This On top of touring together even more and having SUPPORT from their labels could help R&B.Yes, there is Universal R&B out there but there's not support or push behind it.

I don't think it has to Sound like it but the content/lyrics have to be universal if you want universal or mass interest.

If you're singing your heart out about wanting a hood nigga and hood love you obviously want to appeal to a hood demographic and not a universal demographic.

It's just evolved, unfortunately the artists we grew listening to were unable to evolve with it.

I wish people would stop looking at mainstream radio as an indicator of the ?state of R&B". Someone like Kelela hasn't had a single Top 20 but she has a significant online and festival fanbase.

Stop holding that fat bitch adele up to some standard when jazmine sullivan, jill scott, erykah badu etc all make strong empowering lyrics yet never seen the same heights.
