vlad is grossly obsessed with aaliyah/r kelly. every time he interviews someone he'll find a way to bring them up and it's usually to slight. he could interview E-40 and they'll make their way into the convo

Aaliyah had a beautiful voice, but chose a certain style which set her apart from the other girls.

That style, while still beautiful was not the popular sound in the 90's. Back then the divas were expected to hoot and holler on every Diane Warren power ballad. If you didn't, haters would say you couldn't sing.

Aaliyah had a beautiful head and chest voice. Never understood why people said she couldn't sing.

because for most, to sing was to hoot and holler. Still is. Also because she hadn't learned to control her voice live (on stage, because she slayed an impromptu one on one acapella) which on TOP of not hooting and hollering sat her down more notches on people sang scale

not many know or respect the actual technicalities and variables of singing

I remember Aaliyah saying she didn't like the recording process with Darkchild. She said she likes to take her time and he tried to rush her.

I think Brandy X Darkchild was perfect for NSN. I know it really helped Bran to be the vocalist she is today.

I'm not gonna say her vocals never impressed me but she was a good singer. She woulda got better as she developed tho. She died at 22. If Brandy died at 22, she wouldn't have been a SINGER at that point imo either.  Her live performances used to be quite bad

that takes time, but I haven't listened, but I'm sure what he's saying is she had an exceptional natural voice with all of the potential in the world

and that's exactly right. The whole "aaliyah can't sing" narrative was always dumb af, and as usual, blacks or "niggers" were the ones spewing it

Or it coulda regressed like Monica, Mariah, Alicia and plenty other female vocalists. Dont get me wrong, u'll never hear me say Aaliyah cant sing cause her voice was beautiful. Her studio vocals were just always better. And Brandy at 21 n before has delivered solid vocals live. Lets not.
