I have to admit that I think a part of me is hesitant to watch the sequel because although I am super connected to the original and love it, watching African Americans get together again to put on "African" accents and play dress up in what is supposed to be tribal wear of some sort....

with obviously little to no input or participation from actual African people....

I dunno, it just hits different in 2021, watching it be done again.
I thought I may have been just a little too sensitive and thinking too hard about it but coming across this made me feel justified in those thoughts I had in the back of my mind.

not all feel that way, though.

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

I watched it and didn't find it offensive

I just wish they would have left this movie alone. Dont fuck with the legacy and put out mediocrity

It had it's moments but my biggest issue was mediocrity.

sfnfsnffnsnfnsfnsns

i saw someone make a good point that it's rare that a sequel is ever good as the original

but i dunno, the theme of CTA overall doesn't leave a lot of room to fall short

it's one of those types of movies that can be amazing or just a flat out joke in the worst way possible.
the concept, story line, etc.

Hmmm I mean I guess I understand how it can be offensive. But I mean it is "Zamunda" which is a fictional place with their own customs and culture... sometimes ppl just want to be offended I feel

i can actually understand it

a lot of people are genuinely surprised when they travel to Africa and see actual...cities
buildings. modern architecture. like .. "omg i just thought it was a bunch of lions and zebras running around. u know...WILDNESS! lolz "

there's some true tea she's spitting in her post.

it's not the FIRST thing i thought of when seeing previews of the sequel but its just something about watching them put on those "African" accents in 2021 that just makes me a LITTLE uncomfortable. not outraged on behalf of Africans everywhere lol, but a lil uncomfortable.

obviously it's a comedy but the fact that there seems to be something inherently comedic about "African"-ness is something to think about .

York and LA accents? When they%u2019re from the UK

well People don't come to America surprised to see there's actual civilization, regular everyday people and cities with modern architecture .

I can see why some Africans are more protective over what's been pushed as an image of Africa and Africans . I think their feelings are super valid ... for those who do feel that way

There are plenty who don't mind , which is OK as well

I think the real problem is that most people still don't Africa is a whole continent and not a singular country.

There is no one language or look of Africa because it's comprised of several different ones.

right.

we are all aware of the differences in places like Europe

Of course Spain is different from Ireland! Oh and France simply does not compare to Italy! But have u been to Finland? Ugh!

But Africa is just one big jungle .

Nndndndnndn

I see why some Africans roll their eyes at stuff like this . They're super protective and defensive because there is ALREADY a lot of ignorance and misinformation out there about what Africa really is .

And MEDIA has had a huge hand in that .

yeah its funny as fuck just like ppul doing that fufu challenge and some ppul are gagging at it
the comparison of cultures is the kii and theres nothing wrong with either one but the comparison is funny at time

but ...
so are we to get the full experience of these places without taking the time to explore it ourselves

no

its no ones job to portray a place in a certain light to make anybody feel better

if your curious go there if not belive what you want  and accept the narrative put forth or create ur own

its the same with alaska

ppul think someone is actually living in a igloo with snow glaciers all around and no black ppul

not many would be here if it was just that but bring your ass down here and see it
