But I actually appreciate the beauty of "the hood" , its representation and can identify with it. Me seeing it represented never really bothers me unless it's something just blatantly offensive, condescending or racist .
Tyler has tried to branch off into more "serious" productions and roles , but he undoubtedly has a signature style and niche. And that's OK.
He's so used to doing everything on his own that it was difficult for him to consider letting anyone else in. That's OK as well. It's his business and empire that he built with his bare hands .
I think his desire to hold on to the "everything produced and written by me" was his personal attempt at maintaining artistic integrity . That's not uncommon among certain types of artists, regardless of how "good" their work is. Some of them just love knowing they did all the work themselves . Feeling completely self reliant in their field.
At least he was willing to listen a bit more about letting that go once he began getting feedback.
Here's the bottom line: all the ghetto, trashy work he's done has now put him in a position to give back to us . To pay for the legal defense of Breonna Taylor's boyfriend . To feed Atlanta's homeless population. To hire what would otherwise be unemployed Black talent.
And he does all that with happiness. Imma be rolling my neck for Tyler until I die. Mmmm hmmm honeychild. He's a kang.
