and just another FYI in general as to DNA and how that relates to Native identity:
it doesn't. ....relate to Native identity
if we're talking about racism, it's actually seen as racist by Natives for people to apply percentages and use DNA reports to confirm their identity or tribal affiliation
and to top that off, DNA reports don't even have a lot of Native groups in their database for comparisons.
my tribal elders requested info about my family line when I approached them
as in, if you say you're one of us. who is your family? what are their names?
and i started from my grandfather and went back to my ancestors who were from the blue ridge mountains.
based on genealogist reports and backed with receipts.
that's how i was i identified as a descendant, and welcomed.
and for the most part, that's how it works with Native identity. it's kinship. community. connections.
i promise you, once you actually talk with tribal people your outlook will be totally changed.
and yes, they may say they're "Indian" when u do, so be prepared for that.
some may even tell you about what they did last Thanksgiving. lol not all of them are super woke, just like not all Black people are super woke - and pull out the BBQ for july 4th.
