There's a "don't ask don't tell" culture in the church.

Everyone from the pulpit on down knows who's gay in the congregation.

Without the gays, there would be no Black church. At least not the Black church you see today. That's why it's easier to just turn a blind eye to it. HOWEVER that doesn't stop preachers and regular ass members from spewing anti gay rhetoric whether it be from the pulpit or the pew.
