In some religions your family are supposed to disown if you're gay. People value their relationships with god and their families over a piece of dick. To some the church community is like a second family. iIt's not as easy as you think.

I grew up in church. Know it like the back of my hand. After I graduated from HS I ran far away and never looked back.

Let's say you gave up the church, and disconnect from your family. 5 years later you're still feeling empty, lonely, unhappy, depressed, etc? Then what? Was it worth it? Everybody doesn't wanna settle for DL dick and late night hookups.

Let's also say you live how all the perfect people in the church want you to live and live a lie, lying to everyone in it, have it backfire, and you're still empty, lonely, unhappy, depressed, but with alimony, divorce papers, child support to boot

Or let's say it doesn't backfire but by playing by the rules, you're empty and depressed because you're trying to lay next to a woman you're not attracted to sexually.

So do you want to be depressed and trapped, living for other people, or depressed and fulfilling yourself how you see fit.

At the end of the day, if you're going to put up with some bullshit. I'm sure most people would prefer to deal with their own family than some strangers you build a false relationship with who is are potential deceivers, scammers, users, from the street praying on you.

People in your family are those things too, and they are supposed to love you no matter what. It's much more exhaustive to deal with that, than with people who at least accept you for who you are because they can relate. The scammers and such is secondary.
