DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
Three passengers were killed when their car fell fifty feet from the Buford Spring Connector down to the lanes of I-75 below.
It happened just after 3 a.m. Saturday morning on the bend below the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.
Markings spray-painted by police on the ground gave a good picture of how the accident happened.
People who drive around that curve may not realize that just beyond the shrubs, it is a fifty foot drop to the ground below. There is a three foot concrete barrier alongside the edge of the road, but it wasn't enough to keep the car from going straight over the side.
If it happened in the daytime, many people could have been on the road below, but at 3 a.m., the highway was fairly empty and no other cars were involved.
The victims have been identified as 36-year-old Esu Manzano, 33-year-old Adam Bailey, and 24-year-old Cordel Fowler.
Fowler was a bartender at Aloft Hotel in Downtown Atlanta and was a student at Morehouse College.
