I agree that certain award shows leave a lot to be desired. But it's still the only stage that some of the best and brightest black/urban stars can get on.
Well there is the NAACP Image Awards.
I love the BET Awards, The Soul Tran Awards, and especially the NAACP Awards. They reward us, and it's more enjoyable for me to see people from shows I actually watch and care about. The NAACP Awards is always really classy and well put together. And The Soul Train Awards is the only place I ever see real r&b still being rewarded...
It's kind of up to us to value our own shows.

Sidney is in his late 80s and Cicely is in her 90s. Do you really think they are going to do that at this stage in their life?
I agree that certain award shows leave a lot to be desired. But it's still the only stage that some of the best and brightest black/urban stars can get on.
I just think if they did it..it would give the award WORTH

Grammys and Oscars write cultural history. 20 years from now nobody is gonna look up all the underground actors/singers, we will look at who won the Oscar/Grammy to get an impression of which people of that art were excellent and representative.

I would love to see black actors and musicians of prominence in the entertainment world supporting Afro-centric events more. It's like when they get to a certain "status", they want to act like they're too good to attend the NAACP Awards, or they're too good to perform on the BET Awards or the Soul Train Awards, or they're too good to walk those red carpet events. And by doing that, they encourage the public to do the same. Fans constantly on social media shading BET programming. black directors/producers need to try a lot harder to create more undeniably epic movies with the low budget thats available to them.....eg. shoot a lot of movies about africa in africa.....warrior stuff like Apocalypto....the budget will be low if its shot in africa.....we need to MAKE these big movie studios wanna start investing in our shit....
