She already was starting to become part of the established, regular R&B girls like Jazmine... I think K. Michelle really affected her.

What does K have to do with Elle being inconsistent
I think it's a little bit of label politics and just not keeping the ball rolling while she was garnering a buzz
I don't think that elle varner was part of anything. She literally just had the one song that people liked :dead:
& K.Michelle effecting anyone's career is kinda laughable. That whole thing between those two wasn't some highly talked about/publicized ordeal
"Refill", the song with J. Cole, the song where she had them ghey in the video. Sis was on the RISE... It did not take much, and she could have properly broken through...
K. Michelle said something about the label/management team comparing them, Elle losing her identity over hanging out with her.

Refill was the only song that did anything, don't know any of that other mess. :dead:
She wasn't really interesting imo. Very talented tho but it takes more than talent to be a STAR
i disagree!
i feel that she was very interesting

I think y'all give her too much at times. "Refill" was definitely the only song MOST people knew. Of course, we knew more being more in-tune with music. But I really don't know tho. Elle was very talented and I loved her music, so I don't know why she didn't continue

Then the management's fault. K ain't got the power to effect nobody's career.

Well people can affect people, does not take much power, just time spent together.
That was like her first video for the 2nd album, right? I thought that was MEH. Like it was ok but nothing i necessarily had to hear again.
b
She was dope as hell
Period
Her first album was solid as fuck...

I'm speaking on her career. He relationship with K had nothing to do with her career stalling. And before they became friends, Elle hadn't release an album in 2 years
THESE were the two i liked, WOO! Her lead singles are terrible tbfh.
Yassssss for "Cold Case"

Yea, i was immediately turned off by refill, even after hearing the album was actually ok. I guess refill resonated with some people, obviously, but it turned my fckn stomach
Wait, this leaf song is nice. Fell better fckn sing
Leaf, Not Tonight, I Don't Care. First album was great.
I loved Elle Varner's mix tape and first album. She had a very unique sound. And I don't think she was ever trying to be a pop mega star. I know that's all some of you think there is. She was just trying to be a great artist who made good music. I don't really know what happened. I think a lot of the new r&b acts have it harder because r&b, in general, isn't in a good place.

Right. I feel some of the people here don't get her or probably haven't heard very much of her music. She's not some cookie cutter artist. At least she wasn't on her first project.

She had a song called "Make Me Mine" that was supposed to be on her next album that was really dope! My boy and I did the graphic design for it but the song ended up being sold to another artist smh...

Her music was very colorful / diverse. She had one song that was reggae-ish, one that was country-ish, one that was very 90s r&b inspired, one that was kinda 80s hip hop like mixed with 70s soul, one song where she rapped a little... Her mix tape and first album were dope because she wasn't a conformist to what's expected of an r&b girl is typically supposed to sound like. And I dug her fro and colorful clothes. Then sometime when working on her 2nd album her sound started being more similar to what's popular already. And her look did, too. I think maybe she lost herself...

I agree. Actually outside of refill, i like what I've heard. The vocal i even like because it has alot of character. I like when singers can give u that raspy, off sound but be ON! Every vocal doesn't have to be that pitch perfect, whitney vocal
