Basically a little child crawled into a gorilla cage at an Ohio zoo

QuoteThe killing of a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo after a 4-year-old boy tumbled into the ape's enclosure triggered outrage and questions about safety, but zoo officials called the decision to use lethal force a tough but necessary choice. More than 2,000 people signed a petition on Change.org that sharply criticized the Cincinnati Police Department and the zoo for putting down the animal and called for the child's parents to be "held accountable for their actions of not supervising their child."
Cincinnati police on Sunday said the parents had not been charged, but that charges could eventually be sought by the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Authorities did not identify the child or his parents. The family could not be reached on Sunday.
A Facebook page titled "Justice for Harambe" had more than 3,000 likes by Sunday afternoon, a day after the 400-pound (181-kg) gorilla was shot dead about 10 minutes after encountering and dragging the child. The animal, named Harambe, was a Western lowland gorilla, an endangered
species, and the zoo said it had intended to use him for breeding.

A Facebook page titled "Justice for Harambe" had more than 3,000 likes by Sunday afternoon, a day after the 400-pound (181-kg) gorilla was shot dead about 10 minutes after encountering and dragging the child. The animal, named Harambe, was a Western lowland gorilla, an endangered species, and the zoo said it had intended to use him for breeding.
"If we think it's acceptable to kill a gorilla who has done nothing wrong, I don't think our city should have gorillas," Manvinder Singh posted on the Facebook page.
A blog post on the website for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals questioned why it was necessary to kill the gorilla and whether zoos could meet the needs of such animals.
"A 17-year-old gorilla named Harambe is dead, and a child is in the hospital. Why?" blogger Jennifer O'Connor wrote. "Western lowland gorillas are gentle animals. They don't attack unless they're provoked."
Witnesses told local television that the boy repeatedly expressed a desire to join the gorilla in the zoo habitat. Moments later, the boy crawled through a barrier and fell about 12 feet (3.7-meters) into a moat surrounding the habitat, where Harambe grabbed him, zoo officials said.
It was the first time in the 38-year history of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's gorilla exhibit that an unauthorized person was able to get into the enclosure, zoo president Thane Maynard said on Saturday.
"They made a tough choice and they made the right choice because they saved that little boy's life," he said, adding that a member of the zoo's Dangerous Animal Response Team fired the shot that killed the ape.
Maynard said the team decided to use deadly force instead of tranquilizers to subdue the gorilla because it could have taken some time for the drug to take effect when an animal was in agitated state.
The child was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Hospital officials, citing privacy laws, declined to say on Sunday whether the child had been released or to disclose any details about his injuries.
Western lowland gorilla numbers in the dense rain forests of Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea have declined by more than 60 percent over the last 20 to 25 years, according to the World Wildlife Federation.
The Cincinnati zoo was open on Sunday, although Gorilla World was expected to be closed indefinitely. Neither the zoo nor the fire department responded to a request for comment.
At other U.S. zoos, similar encounters have ended in tragedy, including the 2013 fatal mauling of a 2-year-old boy by a pack of wild African dogs after he fell into an exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.
A man who in 2012 jumped into an enclosure at New York's Bronx Zoo to be "one with the tiger" suffered bite wounds and other injuries but survived.
But there was a happy ending when a 3-year-old boy fell into the gorilla den at Brookfield Zoo near Chicago in 1996, and an 8-year-old female gorilla named Binti Jua picked up the unconscious boy and protected him from the other primates. The act of kindness won Binti Jua national attention as Newsweek's Hero of the Year and one of People's most intriguing people.

i saw this
all in all: tha death of this ape lays on tha PARENTS HEADS!!
who tha fck loses a child jus to find them in a pit fulla damns monkeys
who does tht!
Better question is how did the child get down there and where were his parents.
The BRUTE force that thing could have inflicted on that child. Duh.
I've seen people suggest they shoulda shot the child.
The Parents are trash and should be ashamed of themselves for not watching that child.

I agree but it goes way beyond animals being for our consumption though. If you look at the mining industry and how much wildlife is in danger to fund our uses of petroleum and oil, it goes a bit deeper than telling someone eating a cheeseburger means they can't be mad about a gorilla being killed. And environmental harm is an even bigger clusterfuck.
Using veganism as grounds for moral superiority is pretty much a waste of time.

Has anyone ever thought about the fact that we pretty much have destroyed parts of the world so much that only tiny can live next to us. Cats, dogs, tiny birds, squirrels and other rodents are the only animals most human see daily and humans are constantly looking for more land to consume as we continue to grow. What's gonna happen to the megafauna when we continue to expand.

Native people hunted and consumed meat. Even though there were plenty greens and fruit around them to eat. But also had a RESPECT for animals. And a certain reverence for them. A reverence that is missing when it comes to a lot of people in the world today. Animals are there for them to ride on in a circus, have them jump through fiery hoops. Or removed from their natural habitat, and caged so everyone who's too punk and/or lazy to go see them in their natural setting can come wave at them.
Animals aren't treated with respect. If you're so afraid of what wild animals can do, stop caging them up and letting these dumb ass people and kids FROLIC around their cages. Woo hoo! Hee hee! Hey monkey! Shit got real once they got in to SHARE their world a bit. :ATLcameo: :ATLcameo: :ATLcameo:

nigger you can't 'revere' or 'respect' another sentient being and then turn around and slit its throat for dinner. humans can survive on a completely plant based diet. so this falls under
unnecessary enslavement and slaughter. these animals are 'products' from the very moment they are born into this world. other than the fact that we have been deeply conditioned to think that they were put on this planet for our consumption, there is no logical reason to think that is actually the case...because we (humans..not talking about carnivores) can survive on a plant based diet. how is what natives did relevant to us today?....humans evolve with time and become more and more conscious about what is wrong and right....and also what is completely unnecessary and harmful to the planet.

I think the fact that animals eat other animals invalidates the notion that we shouldn't consume them.
I just wish we didn't farm animals and create unnatural populations of them.
But this is the world we live in today. Hopefully an asteroid wipes us all out and restarts the process.

I'd agree with your point if the basis of my argument was that some animals are for entertainment while others should be left alone. You're referencing other people's beliefs to draw some sort of inconsistency with my own.
if someones belief is that exploiting animals for entertainment is wrong but then unnecessarily enslaving and slaughtering animals for food is normal and acceptable then that would no doubt fall under cognitive dissonance- holding very contradictory core beliefs....jhjh trust and believe if it was necessary (for our nutrition and health) to eat meat i would be inhaling a bowl of grilled chicken right now...fuck the vegan diet.

The gorilla is the innocent one in all of this. Just think about it... he was stolen from his home and forced to be locked away and exposed to ppl everyday. I honestly wouldn't feel bad if they booked the rugrat instead of the gorilla. Why was he in there anyway? :uhh:
gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

The fact that this child was able to crawl it's way into a gorilla cage is fucking non conventional and the parents should be booked!

But I'm not really clapping for Bubbles either. Y'all love campaigning for these animals when they'd tear you limb from limb given the chance.
And it does feel kind of hypocritical crying over Curious George when we eat meat, bacon and wear leather every other day, all of which comes from the slaughter of innocent animals.
jhjjhjhsdfsdfsf
its VERY hypocritical
even if someone isn't vegan i at least want them to be AWARE of how contradictory their beliefs are....cognitive dissonance is so real
it reminds me of the outrage over that dentist who killed the african lion.....jkjkj like you're inhaling a plate of grilled chicken as you fume at the news story of this lion getting killed
It's not "hypocritical".
If we wanna take it WAY back...
:ATLcameo: :ATLcameo: :ATLcameo:
humans evolve with time and become more and more conscious about what is wrong and right....and also what is completely unnecessary and harmful to the planet.
That's funny considering the agriculture of non-meat products spurs deforestation, which is another major contributor to the premature death of certain animals.
:rudone:
!!!!. deforestation and palm oil plantations...big problem in asia.....
but i think thats a problem we can definitely solve. ending animal agriculture and the unnatural breeding of animals, and changing our diets to plant based will allow us to have more available land. we can allocate a portion of the land to animals and leave them the hell alone... and then use the rest of the land to grow crops. that way we dont have to kill orangutans and clear entire forests just to grow some damn palm trees. it will take planning to do this of course even if the whole world goes vegan today.
have you checked out cowspiracy?...you guys should definitely watch that when you have free time.

A tranquilizer would have took longer to knock it out. animals are too unpredictable and to be sitting around trying to decide how to rescue a 4 year old face to face with a 400lb gorilla would be foolish. n

I watched about of animal attacks and tbh you don't get a sense of the SIZE and POWER of an animal until you watch an attack.
It made me realize just how WEAK we really are, but I also learned that in evolution human had to pick. The smarter we got the weaker we got.

It's scary how we can get a cut and catch an infection and die
Meanwhile, animals live lie in SHIT and do just fine.
Even outside of the biological level, drop us from 2 stories and we break something or possible die -- but a cat walks away unscathed.

Not pets being slays.
I mean it's sad but some animals are too far gone.
We've domesticated them to the point that they'd die without us.
Most farm animals like cows, turkeys, sheep etc., would die in the wild.

we dont have to toss them in with the apes and lions though
we could have animal santuary's.....environments that kinda closely simulate their 'natural habitat'....
just having a dog couped up in a damn 900 sq ft apartment with no other dogs to interact with....on a leash when we go out, castrating it (im not saying all pet owners do this but...)..forcing it to form relationships with humans rather than its own kind..stealing it away from its family.....very slavery'ish.
pet owners on here,i aint judgng :calmdownsis:

and most of them dont even eat healthy n exercise like I do. :everythingok: are we invincible
Sssssss
Gorl no. That's not how it works.

People that eat dairy a lot have fucked up digestives systems.
dssdddd
I recently realized that it's more common than NOT. I told someone at work I drink whole milk and he went " :omgwatshappening: how?"
Then I thought about how no one in my family drinks milk except my father and I.
It doesn't effect me. I really had no idea milk gave people upset stomachs/diarrhea
Yh I read somewhere most African people and their descendants don't have the enzyme that tolerates diary in milk.
Never mind all the antibiotics, pus, blood, enzymes that's in milk :uhh:

R there imitations meats that I can eat?
Like I'm really going through right now.
I like the texture of meat in my mouth :stressed:
yes tempeh , seitan and tofu......when i first went vegan i had no interest in eating these
now i love them...there's so much stuff in the stores you can try
there's a vegan chinese restaurant in atl that uses seitan and tempeh and you could easily fool someone into thinking its real meat....the texture and the way its seasoned... :plzstop: ..thes asians are masters at using these products because they've been using it for centuries
for sandwiches i love just veggie based ones.....i either do portebello mushrooms, avocados or falafels with the other mess (lettuce, tomato, onions) and some type of spread....you will find so many ideas on yt

I can't imagine my jollof without a side of chicken
Or my pepper stew with no fish
:gorlonfire:
mnbnbnbnbh
!!! i couldnt either at first
and right now,i just dont like the idea of using these asian imitation meats in traditional ghanaian food..
i do jollof with with peas, fried plantains and a side of veggies (coleslaw or cabbage stir fry mess)...and maybe baked beans if you're into that.... :justabit:
but i mean your red red and plantain is already vegan
groundnut soup, light soup, palm soup, okro stew, kontomire are all just as good without meats :woohoo:

I threw away the dairy and eggs I had in the fridge. I'm not a big meat eater so I have no issue passing up on a burger and I don't eat seafood really but I'm not letting go of kitfo. :overit: I only eat it like 3-5 times a year anyway on our holidays. :overit: Then there's tibs, ayibe, etc yeaaaa sor' :overit:
ugh yess... :plzstop:
...and you CAN still have burgers...
i think ethiopian cuisine is very different from ours ......like most of our stews and soups can stand on their own without meat and fish....
but based on this pic of tibs
(http://s3-media1.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/Io7QlSnZSTpXnSepg5GWfQ/o.jpg)
mmm...the meat is kinda the star of the show
yeah ur gonna have to try seitan, tofu or tempeh in place of it

I don't know how it is in the US but they do check those type of things to make sure the milk is ok. Milk from heathy cows shouldn't be a problem for most people.

I know a lot of people who eat regular food and don't break out with acne, etc. it's actually more rare for me to see people who complain that certain/specific foods make them break out or have some adverse effect on their body.
From what I've seen a lot of people go vegan, etc. for health reasons, to "do better", etc. Kinda the same mess as people who drop carbs, etc. Carbs don't kill them, they just want to see what life is like when they're reduced or eliminated.
nah a lot do it for ethics and the environment and other problems that ending animal agriculture can potentially solve (starvation in the 'third world')....honestly, i dont care THAT much about health...
everyone has a threshold were mess starts happening....some people eat little enough meat/dairy that its not a problem...for others it catches up with them when they get older and these start experiencing all these problems that are a direct result of the decades of abuse to their bodies...meat does no favors for your body or health lol
reduction or elimination of carbs is never a good thing...thats your bodys primary source of energy..and there's plenty of high protein plant foods...whereas meat has no carbs....so nah...low carb is nothing like cutting out animal products

jhjhjh
annie..that industry does NOT care about what is going into our bodies...as long as they're making their coins and as long as these products are not going to kill us instantly ...and there's no way of knowing if these cows are 'healthy'....most of them are not....what would qualify as healthy? just curious
these studies that jayden is talking about were conducted on milk from store shelves..even after all the processes used to try and get rid of the mess....it still contains traces with pus, blood, and even traces of feces and obviously natural or injected hormones and antibiotics...very small traces...but its still there.
Oh well! Still gonna drink my glass of milk

Weird because people are cautious of what they put in their bodies?
They really should've shot and killed that little boy's mother after they shot the gorilla.

I never understood how ppl could perch and drink a glass of milk. It's disgusting. I don't even eat cereal with milk. Yogurt makes me sick to my stomach. But I'm sure I've eaten products with milk in it. I'm gonna cut that tho.
:uhh:
I love milk
Everyone one here is treating it like poison.
It sits in your stomach and releases toxins.

Milk is disgusting. I cringe when ppl dip their cookies in it.
I can only tolerate it with cereal and that's once in a blue
I'm sor' but now I have this mental image of jans snatching a bby and GALLOPING through tht empty stadium and I can't stop screaming.

I don't understand why they didn't just use a tranq' gun.
Because this isn't the movies where you shoot something with a tranquilizer and it instantly falls out. It doesn't work like that, especially on something as large as a 400 lb gorilla.
The initial shock of being shot with something would've most likely resulted in him rampaging anyway.
Y'all please stop with this tranquilizer mess
Fuck that damns Ape
