Title: How much is your rent? And what do you consider too much?
Post by: Inject My Lips on July 18, 2016, 03:29:25 AM
Are rent prices as rediculous in your city as they are in LA?  I'm paying $775 for a dusty studio that's latched on to a ugly house :uhh:

I'm looking to move soon since my youtube is becoming successful, but I can't see myself going over $1k when in vegas you can live like a king for $600!  Meanwhile 1 bedroom apartments in LA are in the 1.5-2.5k range.

In Central Florida your mess can go from 500 to 2000

2000 (for an apartment) would be a LAVISH skyrise apartment in downtown or a 5 bedroom Home

Yeah NYC is even worse I heard!  I love the beaches and the hiking out here, plus I'm from Chicago so moving to the south or some random city would feel like a downgrade.

i see. So you actually like it there and want to stay but you want to branch out.

my advice would be to make sure your rent is no more than 1/3 of what you make. You never want to be in a situation where you are working simply to pay for something that you'll never own. (Almost your whole check or even half of it going to rent)

Otherwise, see if there are other options out there within that price range you're in now. Maybe 100 or even 200 dollars more. Instead of gunning for a 1 bedroom, simply aim for a BETTER studio apartment.

Just my opinionata . Congrats on the channel bvy .... Beautiful self

Yes that is my dilemma!  If I worked a 9 to 5 it would be easier to justify staying in such an expensive city.  I could argue that I have better job opportunities out here, or that the pay is higher than in Florida or Indiana etc.  But since I'm not tied to a job I feel like I should take advantage and go where the cost of living is low.  I could probably put a down payment on a cute condo and end up paying less on my mortgage than I pay on my rent!

And trust me I learned my lesson on biting more than I can chew!  Last year I was on the verge of becoming homeless, got my car repossessed, and didn't pay on my credit card for months!  :plzstop:
Now that I'm back on my feet I'm not trying to spend a damn thing!   An upgraded studio apartment is probably what I will end up getting, I just feel like since I'm close to 30 I should step my game up even more.

And thanx luv!

I have a studio in Hollywood for $1,320.

That sounds decent for Hollywood.  I haven't even been looking there cause I was sure the prices would be outrageous.  Does it come with a dishwasher?  That's the one thing that I won't settle on.

yes. It's important to keep progressing but also making sure it's within your means.

Relocating may be cute for you! I would say that if you're doing it, shoot for a city or even state where you have family or trusted friends. This way you have someone local in case of emergency and you won't feel alone as you adapt.

North Carolina was so comfortable for me to settle into cuz my familial roots and extended family are there.

You're so lucky that you have close family in other states.  It's just me and my core family so that makes me want to stay put even more.

Yea... That's why I don't know if I'll stay in NYC forever. It's cute for now, but I think I'll eventually move back down south. What I'm paying for rent up here could be a nice mortgage on a 4 bedroom HOUSE down south.

San Francisco is the worst!  I couldn't even find anything under 1500 besides this bachelor apartment.  You only get a sink in the apartment and have to share a kitchen and bathroom with the whole floor.  It's $1000

Chicago and NYC can get crazy, depending on where you live. I don't understand people who get studios in NYC though. It's too much for no space. Most wind up getting a few roommates and live in a larger space.

Well im paying 1200 for a two bedroom BUT I still just think thats too much money to be lining someone else's pockets with. I recently brought up the conversation with my mother because she's a broker and i think i wanna purchase something. She's always telling me the benefits of being a first time home owner and the breaks u can get, so imma look into that. I cry everytime i cut that rent check tbh

Not 2k

In Central Florida your mess can go from 500 to 2000

2000 (for an apartment) would be a LAVISH skyrise apartment in downtown or a 5 bedroom Home

:dead: :dead: :dead:

yeah,

I just moved into an apartment for 540

but it's student housing,

I have 3 other roomates.
I'm basically paying rent for just my room though, that's my only responsibility and the bills are included.

but there's apartments across the street that are 1101 for a 1br/  :uhh:  :uhh:  :uhh:  :uhh: they're cute but no ma'am

Most recently I paid 1200 in North Carolina
. Nice quiet area though and very close to work.

Here in NYC the reality is that I'll be paying a bit more but it's worth it to me.

It's all about what you value. What's keeping you in LA?

Yeah NYC is even worse I heard!  I love the beaches and the hiking out here, plus I'm from Chicago so moving to the south or some random city would feel like a downgrade.
ssssssssssssss

Chicago ain't THAT great.

The South is def an upgrade tbh >>>>>>

dd this cozy Brooklyn studio for $1000

They wasn't lying when they said that a 50k salary can still struggle in New York.

Yea... That's why I don't know if I'll stay in NYC forever. It's cute for now, but I think I'll eventually move back down south. What I'm paying for rent up here could be a nice mortgage on a 4 bedroom HOUSE down south.

:udontlookok:

when did you move to NYC

I'm in NYC.
Brooklyn.
1 bedroom a block from the 3/4 train.
$1,500 a month.

Everyone complains about rent prices here, and rightfully so in many cases, but you're paying for access. You're in the epicenter of the fucking world. Any and everything is in NYC. That allows more of a possibility to also make a lot of fucking money. The sky is the limit.

Gentrification is a mess though. Not fucking here for that. They truly are the problem when it comes to rent in NYC. That's another story.

And it also depends on where you want to live in New York. People who aren't from here forget there's more to New York than Manhattan. If you really want to live here, you can. It may be in Staten Island or deep in the Bronx in a two fare zone with a 2 hr commute, but you can live in NYC for under $1k if you are hungry enough.

So I moved from NC to the SF Bay Area at the beginning of this year and my rent for a 2 bedroom 1000 sqft house is 4k per month. It's insane. To put it in context we own a 2000 sqft house in Raleigh NC and our mortgage is only 1400 per month  :dead:

But yeah, this is definitely not worth it. AT ALL. Everything's so gotdamn expensive and the people out here are fake af. Had planned on doing 2 years out here but honestly now am just trying to make it to one. I think I'm just an east coast gorl at heart. NY SHITS on SF any day of the week tbh  :letsmessfag:

Lol well no, now we're poor af b/c of this rent  :dead:

We actually only moved out here because my bf got a career opportunity he couldn't pass up, with the potential for a lucrative stock payout. I got lucky as fuck and found a good-paying job in environmental consulting, otherwise we'd be evicted and homeless.

But I have to write those checks and I almost puke everytime I'm signing.

Not sure if they are more racist down south. There are plenty of unapologetic KKK townships, rallies and units in the midwest as well. I will say, they just don't give AF in the South. They won't hide their racism.

It's funny b/c I feel like there is more overt racism up north versus the latent racism down south. Like there are definitely tons of racists in the south but they know it's frowned upon so they usually keep it hush hush. Northerners give more of a  :letsmessfag: tea. It's just that the south is steeped in racist history/tradition (like the plantations) so it seems more oppressive. Granted I'm speaking the NC "south," so further down could be worse.

I've noticed that blacks in the south usually aren't conscious so I can see how they can have friendly relationships with racist whites.  Paula Deen and her relationship with her black employee's comes to mind.  Sure she was friendly and sweet, but she also made sure they knew there pace.  Up north you won't see black people tap dancing for white approval therefore its more segregated.

!!! Everything is reasonable here.

Tbh, yeah. I grew up in the south and kinda hated it but now that I've moved away I'm realizing how good most things are down there.

Shame all the ignorant rednecks choose to live there though. Progressively we are behind the times.
!!!!!

The south is definitely backwards.

Black people bragging that their great grandmother was light skinned. :plzstop:

Nbbbvvvvv some of the stuff I heard down there was unbelievable .

v

What part of the south are you guys from? Been living here all my life and never encountered racist mess. There are def. rednecks with confederate flags but they don't bother anyone. And the whole "light/dark skin" mess is a widespread black people mentality. Not just the south.
im from NYC. Born and raised

Yeah colorism is not limited to the south but it's definitely Crazier in the south. I encountered a lot of ignorance. If someone is lighter skinned and/or has looser hair they're "mixed" .

I think it has a lot to do with the diversity though. I'm from NYC so we see everything. Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, West Indians , AA's , u name it it's here. So it takes quite a bit to amaze us.

In north carolina it is very white/black. So their experience with variety is limited. A Puerto Rican came to the office down there from NYC right before I left and she was in her GLORY. Lmao

She wasn't even that much of a knockout . But she was different. So they were all around here. I could tell it was getting to her head ddfdhdhjddjj

Back in the Bronx the gorls wouldn't even have looked twice :plzstop:
honestly the Carolinas are a different breed

My grandma lived there and I think they're a little more behind the times than other southern states

Like you said, some places are very diverse and Florida is as well. Racism exist but nobody is really fearing for their lives down here

I hope utilities and cable/Internet are included in some of these prices cause :uhh:

My last apartment was $625 for a two bedroom two bathroom and balcony mess. Thinking of looking into getting a home tbh. My friend has a decked out mobile home for $400 a month. It's 5 bedrooms and 3 baths with a washer/dryer and a balcony.  :dead:

I can even get a loft down here for less than $800. I'd never want to live in NY or Cali.

I'd never want to live in NY or Cali.
wtfffff
A 2 bed 2 bath apartment in London is like ?2000 at LEAST

The only thing ridiculous priced are those on campus apartments.

I was gonna go back to Auburn but I would've had 3 other roommates and we'd each have to pay $600 something each. But it's still kinda good cause you get almost 2K worth of an apartment for only $600. You just have to live with 3 other people.

I pay 1200 but i think that's reasonable because i have front loader washer n dryer, disherwasher, granite counters, stainless steal appliances, etc. These pics in NY are miserable. If im paying that much money, could it ATLEAST be updated. I think it all depends on where u live tbh. I could see drais thinking 1200 is alot because he's paying half of that

How the hell were you able to find that in Chicago??  Are you on the south or westside?
I live in hyde park. I used to live in a 3 bedroom with my friend and when he left i talked to the owner and worked this out. It's lovely :blessed:

Damn maybe I should rethink Chicago, my parents have a Condo in Hyde Park and I really love the area.
Me too!!!!!!!

I'm thinking of moving here. It'll probably be a little over $600 a month.

You fucking disgust me :uhh:

It'd be 2 bedrooms too lolz!

:blessed:

My friend lives somewhere like this in ATL and his rent is 525 but only because he has a roommate. Is this the case here? Is 600 ur half? That can't be the full rent

No

Every post I've mentioned here is the total rent costs other than that college campus post. Rent down here is CHEAP because the cost is living is much lower.

!!!!!!!! I never understood how tho campus apartments are priced so fucking high. It's a damn ripoff. I see why there would be like 4 niggas in one dingy apartment :plzstop:

I'd rather live in the damn projects tbh

What are the attractions tho?  Is everything all spread out like a suburb or are you close to the city?

I'm literally a 5 min drive away from the city. I can go there and engage in mess or come back to the apartment and kick it for a nice and quiet mess. I think that's how Avana is. It's like a cluster of different apartment complexes spread out like the suburbs but then you can leave and drive to the city which is only a few minutes away.

My last apartment was right in the middle of a huge city though. I literally had college, the gym, the mall, and a crapload of restaurants surrounding me. It was epic. I'm moving back in a few months.

I've noticed that blacks in the south usually aren't conscious so I can see how they can have friendly relationships with racist whites.  Paula Deen and her relationship with her black employee's comes to mind.  Sure she was friendly and sweet, but she also made sure they knew there pace.  Up north you won't see black people tap dancing for white approval therefore its more segregated.

here, for a one bedroom in an older building it's like $1300 and up

newer ones are like $1800+ for a 1 bedroom

both are too much. i wish there were 2 bedrooms for 600 like y'all have.

It's crazy when you move between cities. When I moved from New York to Florida, I almost caught the Holy Ghost when I saw prices for townhouses. After moving back to Chicago, I miss living in Atlanta and Florida

I always do a little prewash by hand.  The main reason I need a dishwasher is so that I can start using my blender on a daily basis again.  It's annoying having to take it apart and clean the blades when I could just drop it in the dishwasher.

There is no *yall because ion trust the shit. I'll do my own mess. But DO.

I can tell I'm getting old based on my views on buyings vs renting. I'm in the Orlando metro area and while I can find newly renovated apts and townhomes (not exceeding $1200/month) I'm not interested. I want a fixer upper to be honest. Something i can make my own. I have my eyes on Burbank.  I saw this 1 bedroom apartment with a dishwasher, stove, fridge, and personal garage for just 1150.  The location was amazing too, very suburban but walking distance away from the downtown area where you have all the fancy restaurants, the Ikea, the mall, and the other stores like gap/topshop.

L.A. is a place where you have to slum it for a while until you MAKE it.
But I honestly can't live here if I don't MAKE IT.

I'm scared of that. I'd rather move back to the Midwest and live well than stay here forever slumming it

The only thing ridiculous priced are those on campus apartments.

I was gonna go back to Auburn but I would've had 3 other roommates and we'd each have to pay $600 something each. But it's still kinda good cause you get almost 2K worth of an apartment for only $600. You just have to live with 3 other people.

and that's when I'd never damn do it

I hate dishwashers. I'd rather scrub my dishes by hand.

Yea. I always side eye a person that prefers a dish washer. They never get them fully clean.
that's why ur supposed to rinse ur dishes before puttin them in and use a good detergent. Ya'll probably throwing shit caked up with food and expecting for it to be crystal clear

My friend stays in NOHO in a one bedroom and its like 950. I think thats pretty good

NOW WAIT A MINUTE!! I might have to move when my lease is up! lol.

I have my eyes on Burbank.  I saw this 1 bedroom apartment with a dishwasher, stove, fridge, and personal garage for just 1150.  The location was amazing too, very suburban but walking distance away from the downtown area where you have all the fancy restaurants, the Ikea, the mall, and the other stores like gap/topshop.
yes God

Screw parking on the street. Garage is a MUST

If you're gonna toss the dishes in the sink anyway to rinse them off you might as well wash them there.

Unless you're making thanksgiving sized feasts everyday I don't see the point. It takes like an hour for to the dishwasher to finish anyway,

dvvvvvv it doesn't take that long, and I don't see anything wrong with making sure the dishes are thoroughly clean/sanitized

It's not just plates, but glasses, skillets, pans, silverware, coffee thermos etc. when you have guests, you'd wanna make sure everything is super clean IMO

Spotless dishes don't always equate to being clean though. I guess it just depends on how many dishes u run through a day/week, and what ur eating, but I use it when there are quite a bit of dishes and scrubbing ain't always enough.

Dishwashers are a reinforcement in my eyes, not necessarily something needed every single day.

who is this guy and how is he making this much money off of youtube?  :uhh:

He's one of those prank channels that got really big a few years ago.  Looking at his socialblade he's making at least $120k a month from his views alone!  That's not including sponsorships or his side projects.  He has a bit part in the new Madea Halloween movie too.

He has over 3 million subscribers and his vids get over 1-3 million or more views each. He's PAID.

Youtube is like a network and you get paid by how many views you bring in like any show. Plus it seems he mainly runs everything his self.
So he pockets that coin. I kinda want to start a youtube mess  :ohwow:

In Central Florida your mess can go from 500 to 2000

2000 (for an apartment) would be a LAVISH skyrise apartment in downtown or a 5 bedroom Home

:dead: :dead: :dead:

holy shit I'm looking at some of the apartments in Florida and they are gorgeous!  Isn't Florida known for being crazy dangerous tho?  I just left Chicago for the same reason, not tryna jump right back into the warzone

You left Chicago for L.A.?
So did I  :ohwow:

Where in L.A?

North Hollywood, we talked on Tinder before I think.

:omgwatshappening:

Hazelcontacts is a flirty mess! LMAO!

I could never have a maid in my house. I don't like people. They steal. :udontlookok:

And they might poison me or something

And they're probably jealous
I'm always extra nice.

I even let her keep things, she saw conditioner or shampoo and noticed I was no longer using it, I gave it to her. She was Black so she could use it too.

I let her have my $700 KD wig  :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

If she hated me underneath all of that then she had to be a petty ass bitch. ssdsdds I treated her nicely and she was basically paid to clean a clean house. :plzstop:
