:kii: I just came back from seeing it. I said the same thing! They must have come for Denzel and Viola's name attachment, unaware they were going to get a Black Struggle period film. :plzstop:
It was emotional. You can tell the legend August Wilson was a great writer. When Viola said "womanless man," my whole theater said, "Oop!" :guys:
I went all the way to the theater with my mom and cousin and it was sold out, along with the 2 following shows. Im going to the $5 matinee tuesday :overit:
I saw it
Omg viola im crying

Denzel is a true method actor ..,,,
This level of talent. They need to work again and again together
LordT, I am supposed to go today...is it depressing?
Babbby...when I tell you this movie shits...it shits. Baby shit or get off the pot. The acting was impeccable. Viola and Denzel turnt. The other actors did good as well.
Whew yes it was an emotional roller coster
And i liked the fact that it still felt like a play

I heard a while ago that Denzel got the rights to The Century Cycle and was going to get them on HBO. Wonder if that's still the case.
Fences is one part of the Century Cycle, a 10-part series of August Wilson, with a play set in each decade of the 20th century. Fences is the 1950's play, and it and one of the others both won Pulitzers. Black excellence!

It was long yes
Dialouge was overkill yes
It still was a play with no intermission yes
The plot unfolded slowly yes
But it wasnt a bore

It still feels like a play. Some love it, some were bored. I give it a 10/10. The setting is mostly at the house and there isn't a lot of action. The action is in the dialogue. They were acting their asses off.
Well I beeen standin WITH Yewwww

her speech to her son at the end about him going to the funeral was omg
more tears came :'( :'( :'( :'(
i was watching a review (3 white ppul ) they said its good but i just feel as tho it was good acting and nothing else
well you cant really get that without a good script and production
i think if it was an all white cast it would be amazing on all fronts
like doubt

which was pretty meh
The second half >>>
Yea they pretty much stayed true to the play. I'm sure it's more intense to see on a stage but their acting was beyond good
Everyone was

!!!! I haven't seen Denzel like this in a long time. But yeah everyone did great. I've read the play a few times and the twists still made me go "omg".
The way that Viola just delivers! That woman is special. And when Cory and Raynell were singing the song towards the end and he got choked up. :(
and Mykelti as Gabe!!! He was fuckin perfect!
@ not seeing Denzel like this. That's EXACTLY what i was thinking. I was like i havent seen denzel like REALLY act in a long time. Viola is a great actress but lord i hate that this bitch ALWAYS finds a way to drip slobber and snot over atleast one scene before the credits roll. Mykelti was great too. When he was determined to blow that trumpet at the end :stressed:
When Denzel told Vi about his MESS i was so fckn pissed :nowgorl:

I would be nervous as fuck to have to learn all of Troy's lines for a play! That was A LOT! Reading it is one thing, but hearing Denzel recite them is another.
And he did it so AMAZINGLY. The way he put his all into telling those anecdotes and mess :gorlonfire:
