  I just came back from seeing it.  I said the same thing!  They must have come for Denzel and Viola's name attachment, unaware they were going to get a Black Struggle period film.


It was emotional.  You can tell the legend August Wilson was a great writer.  When Viola said "womanless man," my whole theater said, "Oop!"

I went all the way to the theater with my mom and cousin and it was sold out, along with the 2 following shows. Im going to the $5 matinee tuesday

I heard a while ago that Denzel got the rights to The Century Cycle and was going to get them on HBO.  Wonder if that's still the case.

Fences is one part of the Century Cycle, a 10-part series of August Wilson, with a play set in each decade of the 20th century.  Fences is the 1950's play, and it and one of the others both won Pulitzers.  Black excellence!
