I use to work with Jacki-O back in the day. I enjoyed going to the studio and seeing her work. She would produce, engineer and write her own raps. I got a chance to work with Remy and shawnna as well for the group Guns n Roses
Personally i perfered her she could do ratchet rap, thought provoking, nasty whatever...she just got spiritual was over the industry
I had high hopes for her a few years ago. She had the looks and the skills. :ohwow:

I liked Jacki-O a lot. I love that quite a few female rappers produced, arranged and even engineered their own music.
I watch quite a bit of female battle rap and it makes me miss that era in music when there were tons of different femcees.

I was thinking today about this.
I think part of the reason female rap disappeared is because of competition.
If you think abou my it, how many big male rappers cosign and introduce upcoming male rappers? Lil Wayne introduced Drake, Jay Z introduced Kanye, Dr. Dre introduced Eminem, 50, and Snoop, etc.
Most of these cosignings happen with the elder artist is still in their prime, or still possesses major clout in music so that they can give legitimacy to another artist.
Rarely did female rappers do that for others, except maybe Missy. When Foxy, Kim, and all those others were out, they didn't try to pass the torch. They didn't want to be looked at as older, and have a younger female competing with them. It's different for women. A male artist wouldn't have to worry about being phased out as much as a female would.
Anyway, that's what I think contributed to a dearth of female rappers all at once. It went from a ton in the nineties, to a little less in the early 2000s, to none but Nicki by the end of the decade. Once Kim went to jail, Foxy went deaf, Eve went to acting and white men, and Remy went to shooting, there were no new girls with legitimacy out there to take over the reins.
Kim tries to consign folks now, and so does Missy, but I think they would have had more impact doing that when they were in their respective primes.

so in other words nicki needs to start grooming someone now
Female rap was always playing sloppy second to the men.
The only ppl to kick it on the same level successwise were SnP and Lauryn. And now Nicki.
Even during the fox and Kim hey days they were struggling to go platinum while their male competitors were going multi platinum and even diamond.
Female rap had a great year last year.
On the commercial front with openly gay rapper Young MA (oouuu), Remy and these Grammy nods for (All The WAy up), Dreezy (Body, Close To You)
On the critical front NoName released one of the most praised albums of 2016.
If you're solely checking hot100 they will always be the underdogs. On urban radio they had a great year.

Iggy and Azealia couldn't hold onto the stardom. Nicki's kind of perched on her own now.
Yeah they need someone major to consign them and give them a lil boost for awhile. It worked for Nicki. She had Young Money.

I think it's really the major labels not believing and investing in them.
One of the female rappers said awhile back that it cost too much for labels to invest.
A male rapper, just throw him on tshirt, jeans, Tims (in the 90-early 2000s), and his homeboys will be his entourage and hypemen onstage. You can probably pay them in weed and liquor. :plzstop:
A female required a hair stylist, makeup artist, fashion stylist and name brand clothing, and probably some choreographed dance routines with backup dancers and stuff.
It's the same thing that made them do away with groups. All those disappeared in the mid-2000s when labels were not making a lot of money.

Azealia is probably one of the best lyricist in years hun. I use Nicki but her whole style has become so drab and predicable.
That black barbies remix was proof to me that sis has lost it.
:hmph:
I think Azealia is such a dope lyricist. She can also sing a bit and she has such an unorthodox ear. Most girls couldn't rap over the stuff she does. Her pen has a ways to go, but she is definitely a talented writer.
thats why its hard for me to get in . her beats are like trash for the most part . giving DAWN teas a bit trying to be edgy.

It's like black girls can't move beyond traps beats lyrics without trying to be edgy
Nicks whole circus clown chick persona during the 4/5 years into her career was try hard
She's been rapping about the clubs and her cement ass for the past 4 years
Azealia has different and varied ifluences to her sound and image, there's nothing try hard or trying to be edgy like Dawn about her

I grew up in the nineties/early 2000s. I'm used to Lauryn, Kim, Foxy, and that female rap era as a standard. Nicki came in biting Kim, tried to sound like Fox, but spitting nursery rhymes and punchlines. She's not as bad as she used to be, but she's not "lyrical" whatsoever. Her best song can't stand up to their classics.
I'm assuming you grew up in Nicki's prime and are, therefore, impressed.

If she had better producers she prolly could slay but she has cussed them all out on twitter lol

It's not a genre im saying her music reminds me of dawns by trying to be too edgy
Also Im not closed minded. If i was i wouldnt have listened to Azelias discography.
Yall can't have a simple convo about music without trying to put someone down or call someone a name cause they don't agree with you and share the same opinion. You should work on that
Y'all be hating on Nicki her wordplay and delivery>>>>
she knows how to make music sound entertaining and it's not like she didn't grind her way to the top off mixtapes, features and freestyles like 90s rappers
You should work on being able to read and comprehend a conversation before you hit the post button, maybe then people wouldnt have to get tired reading your posts that make no sense, and maybe just maybe you wouldn't have to whinge and whine about someone 'putting you down' :dead:
And her beats sound nothing like dawns
