One of the female rappers said awhile back that it cost too much for labels to invest.
A male rapper, just throw him on tshirt, jeans, Tims (in the 90-early 2000s), and his homeboys will be his entourage and hypemen onstage. You can probably pay them in weed and liquor.

A female required a hair stylist, makeup artist, fashion stylist and name brand clothing, and probably some choreographed dance routines with backup dancers and stuff.
It's the same thing that made them do away with groups. All those disappeared in the mid-2000s when labels were not making a lot of money.
