Coco is my favorite character.
Her honesty about her own self hatred and how it fueled her ambition is way more relatable than Sam turning into Angela Davis over the guilt she feels for being half white.

I get what they're doing. But the execution was all the way wrong. First of all, get more than 2 people that can act. Second of all, don't call it Dear White People. Third of all, cancel it.
Once Lionel got that hair cut I no longer saw it for him tbh. They should have gave him a cute fade mess. His hair was too long for a flat ass 2. I also LOVE how Jemar (who is gay) is playing a straight character.

why do they always gotta find these privileged-sounding black people to address social justice issues? You gotta be from the valley to have an opinion about it?
where are the hood actors at? Where are the Cookie Lyon's, the Bunifah Latifah's, the LaVonc2002's at? That's why I don't take the shit seriously. Not only will it not change ANYTHING in society, but it's clearly an attempt at Netflix tryna benefit off of the pro-black movements that are on trend.

ssssssdff wow
i came in here to say the same. only saw one scene tho
That made alot of sense to me tbh. If a white man was thrown in a room with a bunch of blk panther ass blk people, they'd more than likely take a knee. They either dont wanna say the wrong thing or they want to be invisible because it's intimidating. The only white guy i could see being boisterous in a room full of proud ass black people is a racist that wants to spew his hatred. And the gay guy being friends with the blk president isn't far fetched either. For one, it's his roommate :dead:
Secondly, he isn't a jock. They addressed that in the show when the white man told him he'd be good on the football field and he was like yea, not my thing. Lastly, he's white washed as hell. His whole character is a detour from the stereotypical blk jock. This school seems ivy league, its not on the block daquan making fun of the neighborhood faggot. Blk people gravitating to other blk people on a campus where they are the minority despite differences isn't far fetched. That's what the whole show is about. These different groups of blk people that differ on how to handle the problem but recognizing that there is a problem so they convene in spite of all the shallow shit

EXACTLY! It wasnt far fetched at all
Troy is not a black hood jock. He's a upper class white washed Uni president. He seems to have grown up in very liberal spaces. He don't mind no damn fag.
I think Gabe is passive out of fear of sounding ignorant or looking like your typical privileged white male. That little outburst he had when they introduced his character summed it all up. He represent a lot of white liberals who will go along with anything to avoid seeming racist.

I was speaking on his appearance more than anything. He's the popular handsome guy who gets all the ladies and is President yet his character was roomies was the unpopular nerd gay black guy. His roomie before that was a flamboyant black gay who was discussing the equivalent to Grindr in front of him. These things aren't realistic. I got the impression that the writer wanted to give a DL tea for Troy but knew that would throw things completely off but I digress.
Second, I never said white peoples wouldn't be passive around a bunch of black people. I know they are, however they wouldn't keep pushing to fit in the way Gabe was while being clowned and picked up constantly. I don't care what race but there isn't a guy who would just shrug off that his girlfriend is fucking someone else. What in the cuckolding hell :kii:

They dont wanna say the wrong shit. only when they're in a group of people that they feel completely comfortable around will they maybe speak a bit more open and honestly. That's why white people are always called fake. Will smile and giggle in ur damn face like it's all good but the truth comes out behind closed doors

That is what made him so unique. He is literally the only white character on that show that is like that. hence they connected so well in the first place. He dealt with all her maya angelou mess.
I just don't think any 20 year old has a body like Troy. Or at least during my time I never knew anyone looking anything like that.
And another thing I find it ironic how the whole series is based on awareness of blackness yet the comedic relief and anti-black remarks were aimed at the African character. Contradicting much :uhh: but fight the power n stuff! :uhh: and also the ghetto black girl playing the typical 'homegirl' role was a mess. There are more negatives than positives about this show.
Troy is a politician in training, it's really not that far fetched that he would be comfortable around different people. His fathers seems to have drilled in him the importance of networking and being liked by everyone.

But I remember a sociology class I was taking there was actually this one white boy was crying and carrying on about how black men are genetically good at sports and how no matter how much he tries he won't be as good. He was dragged of course. But a few semesters later I remembered him and he was all hugged up on some fine black girl. I was like... OH I get it now hmph! :kii:

Yeah the potrayal of the African was disgusting. I was highly disappointed in that. The actor was shitty, the character had no depth, no nice inside African jokes about. They could have made a cool Ghanaian character with nice jollof rice jokes. But clearly they don't know shit about African culture. And they did make the one dark skin girl make the homegirl sidekick.

Im guessing its because u live in texas or something cause that aint far fetched either. Not every heterosexual man is "EW" @ gay guys and ESPECIALLY in this day and age. How many times have we watched the real world or something and the straight roommates are going to gay clubs with the gay roommates. Maybe i could see that mentality in the south but when u start getting to places like L.A. or something people arent as concerned about stuff like that
